Owen AU

Hong Kong SAR

Owen is a passionate 15-year-old first-year high school student with a keen interest in biology, chemistry,. After watching the film 3 Idiots, he experienced a transformative moment of self-reflection that reignited his lifelong aspiration to make a meaningful impact in the field of healthcare. Recognizing that many die each year due to inadequate medical access, Owen is committed to addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) and their role in perpetuating health inequalities.

Currently, he is conducting a narrative review with the topic of “The impact of SDOH on Atrial Fibrillation” , exploring how SDOH and inequality influence healthcare accessibility for diverse populations worldwide. By shedding light on these critical issues, Owen aims to raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by underserved communities. This research will serve as a foundation for his future endeavors, as he aspires to become a doctor dedicated to combating healthcare disparities.

In addition to his research, Owen plans to launch a YouTube channel to raise awareness about important healthcare topics, including euthanasia. His goal is to blend his other passion of video creation with advocacy, using his platform to inform and inspire others to take action. Moreover, Owen is an active member of his school’s Gifted and Talented program, specifically in the Future Challenger Sustainability and Entrepreneurship Group. This program requires students to engage with and discuss the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including participating in interactive “2030 SDG Game” experiences and working on future SDG challenge projects.

To further his experience, Owen has completed an internship at a local hospital, where he gained firsthand insights into the structure of a hospital and healthcare system and the challenges faced by individuals working in healthcare. This opportunity enhanced his understanding of community needs

and solidified his commitment to pursuing a career in medicine.

Looking ahead, Owen aspires to attend a prestigious university to pursue a pre-med track, ultimately aiming to become a compassionate doctor. He is driven by a belief in healthcare equality for all, advocating that everyone deserves access to quality medical care.
